Wednesday Word for October 6th

September 22nd Edition

My…how the years have gone by so fast…..It seems like yesterday that Tony and I were cuddling this beautiful little baby girl.  I remember thinking how dependant she is on us to take care of all her needs and knowing that everything we do would be what she would come to know in her life.  At first that thought was very scary, but then I thought – I want to be the best mom ever!  In many ways along her life’s pathway, not everything was perfect, but with God in our lives, He got us through the years to this point and now comes the hardest part of life….letting her leave the nest.  Our daughter, Christina, will be getting married this Saturday to a young man name Lance.  Tony and I are so blessed to know that she has found a good man that we feel will take care of her the rest of the way.  It is a very sad time but then again a very happy time of our lives.  After all, God gives us children to raise with His helping hand so that they may one day have their own children to do the same.  We are the fruit of the trees in God’s eyes and the fruit continues to grow and spread out.  Please keep us in your prayers for the upcoming events this weekend and especially for Christina and Lance in their new life together as one.

There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given by the same Spirit…..1 Corinthians 12:4

Hello WBFJ Family! What a blessing to share this weeks Wednesday Word with YOU! Over the last month, my family and I have celebrated many special dates regarding the 3 year anniversary of my daughter Lexa's adoption from Kazakhstan. As I reflect on the photos, videos and memories, it's hard to believe so much time has passed since those incredible days.

I clearly remember the awesome Joy of carrying her out of the orphanage doors, knowing that she would never be back again. I remember the feeling of relief as the plane took off from the Almaty airport. Most of all I recall landing at the Greensboro airport and the absolute euphoria as I carried her in my arms towards my awaiting family and friends. Lexa's time as an orphan had a happy ending. Unfortunately, right now,  there are millions of children all over the world who are waiting to be held in the arms of a loving parent.

That's why I want to remind you that "Orphan Sunday" is Nov. 8th. If you would like to find out more or if your church would like to get involved, just go to www.christian-alliance-for-orphans.org or www.orphansunday.org.

As Christians, we are called to care for orphans in their distress. Please take the time to check out these websites. I know that God will use you to make a difference in the lives of these precious children.

I just happen to run across this little saying: School days are the happiest days of our lives……

Just try telling that to a child that is in school. I imagine if they are like mine were, they will disagree with you very strongly. They would also say “How or What do you know?” Of course, we parents know nothing! Nothing warms my heart more than hearing the laughter of a child or even a song coming from a child’s mouth. As parents, we know they feel good and they are so happy! And that makes every parent happy!!! Children are gifts from heaven and every child is a blessing. I pray that any child going back to school this year, kindergarten thru college, will have a GREAT year of learning new things. Stay safe and enjoy these very special years!

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Psalm 100:1-2

Thanks to my 7th Grade Spanish teacher and 3 trips to Guatemala, I’ve picked up a little Spanish. On my most recent trip, I found I had picked up just enough Spanish to almost engage in a conversation with someone, but then had nowhere to go because of the language barrier. It was SO FRUSTRATING!!! I’m a talker, I majored in Communication and talking is what I do for a living. So, for me, only being able to have shallow chats with people and not having the words to go deeper was really stifling. Fortunately, the Guatemalans I found myself in this position with were very gracious. They seemed to appreciate that I was at least trying to speak their language, even though my heart to communicate far exceeded my ability.

I sometimes feel the same way when I get into conversations with people about my faith. I know enough about what I believe and the Bible to start a conversation with people, but once we go deeper, I sometimes struggle to find the words to articulate why I believe what I believe. Has this ever happened to you? There are a plethora of books and websites that can help you find the words you need to have conversations about your faith. Josh McDowell’s website, Josh.org is a good place to start. New Christians and long-time Christ followers alike could probably all benefit from a lesson in apologetics.

On the other hand, I have met many Christians who are extremely well educated in theology, doctrine and the Bible, but seem to lack the compassion and love in necessary to communicate that knowledge in a way that others are receptive to. In 1Corinthians 13 Paul emphasizes the importance of love in our communication with others, saying, “If I speak in the tonguesa]" of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”

Paul reiterates the point that the language of our faith is a language of love. We can have the words and the ability, but it is love that allows the message to penetrate other’s hearts.
