Wednesday Word for December 15th
I LOVE Christmas! Now that I’m older, I appreciate the real meaning of Christmas; the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. But, I must admit, growing up as an ‘only child’ (and the only grandchild on my mother’s side) the simple Traditions of Christmas were awesome. Christmas was all about family, friends, home cooking, the smell of fresh cut cedar trees, choir cantatas and children’s nativity plays. And, carefully wrapped presents under the tree.
The excitement of Christmas, especially Christmas Eve was almost TOO much for this kid from Davidson County. Strange? But growing up Methodist, it just seemed ‘normal’ to attend a Moravian Love Feast then attempt to fall asleep to the sounds of a Catholic Mass on TV on Christmas Eve.
Still, I long to feel the same ‘nervous excitement’ of my childhood Christmas. As a forty-something, I look ahead to the day when I will see my Jesus face-to-face. Talk about ‘nervous excitement’!

For now, I will truly enjoy Christmas 2010 with my wife and two not-so-young daughters…until that day when we will celebrate
‘Christ-mas’ for Eternity.
