Wednesday Word for December 29th
The Christmas season is over. Yes, it's true. The decorations are back in the attic. The carols are silent for another year and all the cheer and good will is so yesterday right? It certainly doesn't have to be -- BUT it's absolutely imperative that we take advantage of those "giving" opportunities that the Lord presents us with. Giving, doing for others, acts of selfless-ness -- all ways to show that God is moving through you to "esteem others rarer than ourselves."
A couple weeks back I was getting a haircut and just when my name was called to sit in my hair-cutting seat an elderly gentleman was getting ready to leave. He seemed to be having a difficult time putting his jacket on and unfortunately the others in the waiting area were to busy, to distracted to take notice. I had already been "strapped in" to my chair as he was paying and leaving, but it struck me like bad scissor cut across the back of my head, "that's a service moment"! That's a "step in when no-one else will" moment! They won't always be obvious with a starving child or helpless senior, but it's our responsibility, rather our privilege and our Jesus that we get to represent.
So, bring back the holly and the singing, good will towards men can last all year long!
