Wednesday Word for January 26th

Did you get to hear the Mwangaza Children's choir when they were in studio last Tuesday?  They sang beautifully and each shared their favorite scripture.  Here we were standing and listening to these 10, 11 and 12 year olds not only share their favorite verse but encourage and admonish each of us.  You can see them sharing on YouTube.  It will bless your heart.  One of the verses shared by Isaac was Colossians 3:23-24  Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.  What a wonderful world we would live in if we all did everything with this being foremost in our mind.  It reminds me of another verse:  1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  May everything we do be a reflection of our love for the Lord, whether you are mopping a floor, preparing a meal, volunteering, doing your 9-5, whatever it is do it to the glory of our God!!!!

I would like to ask you to do something, would you please join us in our annual Sweetheart Surprise promotion?  There are senior citizens in our area that would love to receive a Valentine card from you!  Please help to make their day special by making Valentine's and taking them to the area Lowes Food Stores.  You can find a list of those stores at www.wbfj.fm. Please drop off your cards anytime from now until Feb 6th.  We received a card back from one of the seniors last year and this is what she said, "Thanks a lot for my Valentine's filled with so much love for someone you only know as an invisible friend……you went to a lot of trouble to make these cards and I for one have gotten a lot of pleasure out of them not to mention lots of love.  Please help us to make Valentine's Day extra special for an extra special group of seniors in our area.

On behalf of the area senior citizens I thank each of you in advance for making a difference in their lives and ours, too!!

Blessings,

Bonnie

Wednesday Word for January 19th

Recently I heard of an extraordinary act of sportsmanship. It happened during a basketball tournament where the player voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament later gave his trophy to the player he felt was more deserving. In fact, a few weeks later, he went to the college campus and presented the other player the award. In the fast-pace highly competitive world of sports it's nice to see sportsmanship exemplify in this manner. Rarely do you see an act like this.
Fortunately for you and I, God does not treat us as we deserve (Psalm 103:10);  instead he chooses to bless us immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine most importantly with the promise of heaven (Ephesians 3:20).

Go and serve today with an attitude of gratitude because of what others and most importantly what God has done for you!

Blessings,
Kurt

Wednesday Word for January 12th

Hello, WBFJ friends! I hope that your 2011 is off to a fabulous start and that you’ve been able to stay safe during this wintry weather! As I watched a city scraper truck cruise down my street yesterday, I couldn’t help but thank God for the man driving that truck. I assumed that the guy was probably feeling tired after working long hours. On most days, he probably doesn’t feel like he really makes much of a difference in the world. However, as a single mom who needed to get her child safely to daycare and herself to work, I wish I could have run out the door to tell the guy how much his work means to me. As I said a grateful prayer for the driver, I also asked God to help me become more active in expressing my genuine appreciation for the people around me who impact my life in meaningful ways. That being said, thank YOU for your support of WBFJ! I pray that this station blesses your life as much as it blesses mine!

Your friend,
Lana

Wednesday Word for January 5th

I don’t know about you but as 2011 began, there was a bitter sweetness that surrounded it.  2010 was a year that brought many joys, but for some, just as many, if not more disappointments, heartache and pain.  I am not sure  what you experienced as a difficulty, disappointment, heartache or pain, was it the loss of someone who left us much too soon, lost employment that you felt pretty secure about, told that you or child had cancer or had to become the parent to an elderly parent?  Having to go through these things in life alone would be devastating but we don't have to go through it alone, because we have a God who loves us and has a plan for our lives. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Our God loves us so much that He sent His one and only Son to die a cruel death that we might have forgiveness for our sins and eternal life. (Jeremiah 31:3, John 3:16, Eph 2:4-5)

Our God works together all things for our good. (Romans 8:28)

Our God supplies our needs. (Phil 4:19, Jehovah Jireh-our Provider)

Our God meets our needs by moving on the hearts of friends and families and sometimes people we don't know to be our Aaron,  to hold our arms up when we are no longer able to do it our own. (Exodus 17:12, Gal 6:2)

Our God will speak specifically to us, so specifically that it is as if He speaks our name. (Zephaniah 3;17, 1 Timothy 3:16)

Our God will never leave or forsake us. (Deut. 3:16, Hebrews 13:5)

Our God's mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

I hope we will all begin 2011 by believing and standing on the truth of His word!!!

It is so easy when life is good to have faith.  I am learning more and more our faith is exercised through the tough times, the times when life is not going our way, not going as we planned it, it's not always easiest, but absolutely necessary for us to make it through.  Now Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  (Heb. 11-1)  Faith is not in the circumstance to be better but in the God who loves us with a perfect love that cast out all fear. (1 John 4:18)

So no matter what you or I have faced in the past or in the future - go forth in 2011 knowing that we can persevere, (Rom 5:3-5, Gal 6:9, James 1:12) we can be courageous, (Joshua 1:9)  we can stand and not be dismayed, (Isaiah 41:10) because we are loved perfectly by our Father!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 2011 be filled with the assurance that our utter dependence is on our God who loves each of us perfectly!!

Wednesday Word for December 29th

The Christmas season is over. Yes, it's true.  The decorations are back in the attic. The carols are silent for another year and all the cheer and good will is so yesterday right? It certainly doesn't have to be -- BUT it's absolutely imperative that we take advantage of those "giving" opportunities that the Lord presents us with. Giving, doing for others, acts of selfless-ness -- all ways to show that God is moving through you to "esteem others rarer than ourselves."

A couple weeks back I was getting a haircut and just when my name was called to sit in my hair-cutting seat an elderly gentleman was getting ready to leave. He seemed to be having a difficult time putting his jacket on and unfortunately the others in the waiting area were to busy, to distracted to take notice. I had already been "strapped in" to my chair as he was paying and leaving, but it struck me like bad scissor cut across the back of my head, "that's a service moment"! That's a "step in when no-one else will" moment! They won't always be obvious with a starving child or helpless senior, but it's our responsibility, rather our privilege and our Jesus that we get to represent.

So, bring back the holly and the singing, good will towards men can last all year long!

Wednesday Word for December 15th

I LOVE Christmas! Now that I’m older, I appreciate the real meaning of Christmas; the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. But, I must admit, growing up as an ‘only child’ (and the only grandchild on my mother’s side) the simple Traditions of Christmas were awesome. Christmas was all about family, friends, home cooking, the smell of fresh cut cedar trees, choir cantatas and children’s nativity plays. And, carefully wrapped presents under the tree.
The excitement of Christmas, especially Christmas Eve was almost TOO much for this kid from Davidson County. Strange? But growing up Methodist, it just seemed ‘normal’ to attend a Moravian Love Feast then attempt to fall asleep to the sounds of a Catholic Mass on TV on Christmas Eve.
Still, I long to feel the same ‘nervous excitement’ of my childhood Christmas. As a forty-something, I look ahead to the day when I will see my Jesus face-to-face. Talk about ‘nervous excitement’!

For now, I will truly enjoy Christmas 2010 with my wife and two not-so-young daughters…until that day when we will celebrate
‘Christ-mas’ for Eternity.
